Happy Birthday to me!

11 Jan

Happy birthday to me!

I’m a day late on this, but I turned thirty-years-old yesterday! Someone asked how I felt about turning thirty… this question came after she told me about how she cried and cried on her 30th birthday. My answer? I’m happy. I have a husband that adores me, loving and supporting family & family, and two crazy little cats that like to sleep on my side. What is there to complain about?

Nothing. I feel incredibly lucky.

Project Restyle – I’m doing this!

9 Jan

.

I took the Project Restyle pledge, which you can read about here. I’ve got a growing supply of unused crafting items and clothing and other items that I’ve saved to give them new life to at some point and this is the perfect opportunity to follow through on using these things instead of letting them pile up!
.
Project Restyle
.
For my first project, I made myself a circular needle holder for my very tangled, always lost, supply of circular knitting needles. I’ve been saving these pants for a long, long time. I just didn’t know what to use them for (as with all my other saved items!). I bookmarked this tutorial for making a holder from jeans and used that as a guide. I didn’t use the pockets or a hanger, but I did add a loop so I could also hang it off a door if I wanted to.
.
Project Restyle
.
I’m quite happy with the outcome, I just need to add numbers so that I can more easily find the needles I need, but this is a great start to getting those darn needles organized!
.
I’m really diggin’ Project Restyle and can’t wait to see what I make next!

Introducing MoMo.

7 Jan

Meet our newest kitteh, MoMo.
Face
We welcomed her to our home in early November of 2010.  This little kitteh has got spunk like no other! She came from a colony of stray cats in my friend’s neighborhood and I feel like we are constantly trying to tame a wild beast. She gets into everything and claims it as her own! Remember these? Imagine how suprised I was when I came across this:
Doh.
Yep, those darn cute ice cream cozies are now used and abused by MoMo!
Bad kitteh!

I wanted to take a photo of the blue cozy, but I couldn’t find it. Though I did find this picture from last week:
Oh, hai!
There it is, right behind her. It’s probably in her kitteh lair right now where she abuses all my handmade knits!

But again, scroll to the top and look at that pretty face and those very loving eyes. How can I get mad at her when she’s so darn cute??!??!

I can’t.

Happy hew year!

2 Jan

It’s 2011! I’d hate to sound cliché, but 2011 will totally be my year! I mostly say this because this is the year I finally finish college! After that, I will have full freedom to knit to my hearts desire. I don’t know why, but the closer I get to finishing the less time I have, but I did manage to squeeze in some knitting in 2010.
.
Gloves
.
These gloves are the bees knees! I made them late in the summer and I cannot even express the excitement I had as I knit them! I had kicked around the idea for these for sometime and to see it come to fruition, exactly how I envisioned them was quite exciting. I think I can say without a doubt that these were my favorite knits of 2010.
.
Someday, I hope to write the pattern up and share it with the internets.
.
Cowl
.
Mmmmm, Envy. I received this yarn as a birthday gift a couple of years ago, made a too short scarf, and then put it in a box to be frogged. More than a year later, I finally frogged it and made me a nice cowl. This pattern was quick and easy – I made mine  during a marathon of Daria marathon on Logo. A perfect evening, if you ask me.
.
Hat
.
2010 was also the year I properly learned to do things I failed at in the past. For one, I conquered the spindle. And I also conquered yarn dyeing with kool-aid. I tried this a few times in the past, but always ended up with a orangy-red hot mess. This time I, just like with the spindle, I was much more patient and ended up with much better results.

I can only imagine the adventures I will have in 2011, especially once I finish school! Happy new year everyone!

Lost my knitting mojo for a bit

13 Sep

I haven’t fully regained my knitting mojo, it comes and goes, but I try to squeeze something in every now and then. Like tiny cozies for tiny ice creams.
.
Because, why not?
.
Yes, it works.
.
No more cold fingers!
.
I even did some knitting for a school project, but more on that later.
.
I’ve noticed that as graduation (what, really?) gets closer for me, I find myself with less and less time to knit, but the next three weeks I’m on break, and I’ve already started perusing my Ravelry queue for ideas on what to knit. For a while though, I’d just look and look at patterns and not knit anything, always feeling too tired and just straight burnt out. But I think I’ve finally returned, even if it’s only for a short bit until the next quarter starts.

First Handspun!*
**Bonus points if you spot the kitteh that insisted on being part of the yarn photoshoot.
.
Yay, my first handspun yarn that I like! I don’t know much about the fiber, except that the zip lock bag it came from was labeled “mohair.” I do know that I have 158 yards of single (singles?) spun that that is roughly a dk weight. Hey, I’m new at this, I’m still learning.
.
Now I’m spinning the fibers in my last post and those are just wonderful and a bit easier to work with than the mohair. I should get my new spindles today, so here’s to more spinning in the future!
